Carlsbad, Calif. (Vocus/PRWEB) March 02, 2011

As school districts nationwide fight to maintain their arts education funding, the NAMM Foundation reminds school districts and communities to help preserve – or even grow – their music programs by participating in the 2011 Best Communities for Music Education Survey (BCME). The survey is part of NAMM’s ongoing effort to recognize schools across the United States that support music education and provide opportunities for children and young people to learn and grow with music.

Going strong in its 12th year, the Best Communities for Music Education Survey is a nationwide search for communities whose programs exemplify a strong commitment to music education. Established in 1998, BCME recognizes and celebrates schools, their administrators, teachers, board members, parents and students for their support and commitment to music education.

The 2011 survey will remain open through Friday, March 11, 2011 and can be completed at http://www.nammfoundation.org. Each school district or school is allowed to fill out one survey, which must be completed by a school administrator and/or teacher who has access to school and district demographic and budgetary information. A copy of the survey can be downloaded for review at http://www.nammfoundation.org/research/best-communities-music-education-united-states.

The announcement of the BCME final roster will be made on May 4, 2011, during NAMM’s National Wanna Play Music Week, a national celebration of music education and music making.

“This recognition honors – and nurtures – the remarkable accomplishments of educators, students, schools and communities that are committed to quality music education programs,” said Mary Luehrsen, executive director, NAMM Foundation. “Historically, communities that have received the mark of excellence embodied by the Best Communities for Music Education designation have enjoyed increased support for their music programs.”

Participants in the survey answer detailed questions about enrollment, student/teacher ratios, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program, private music lesson participation and other relevant factors in their communities’ music education programs. The responses are verified with district officials and program advisors.

As in the previous years, the 2011 survey will be conducted in collaboration with the Institute for Educational Research and Public Service of Lawrence, Kansas, an affiliate of the University of Kansas.

In conducting the annual survey, the NAMM Foundation is joined by advisory organizations in the fields of music and education: Americans for the Arts, League of American Orchestras, The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation, Music for All, Music Teachers National Association, National Guild For Community Arts Education, Yamaha Corporation of America, Young Audiences, National PTA and VH1 Save The Music Foundation.

About The NAMM Foundation

The NAMM Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to advancing active participation in music making across the lifespan by supporting scientific research, philanthropic giving and public service programs from the international music products industry.

Lydia-Kay Blackburn has been teaching art for over twenty years in public and private school systems and in her own studio. She earned her Bachelors, Masters and Specialist degrees in art education from the University of Georgia.

Lydia-Kay has a passion for encouraging children to push themselves a little bit farther than they thought they could go, resulting in the discovery of their creative potential while building self confidence.

The Arttango art program offers public and private elementary schools, teachers or home schools the opportunity to provide an art education to there students in any or all grade levels, Kindergarten through 5th grade. Students will learn about the elements of art and how to apply each of them in their artwork.

The lessons in Arttango are based on the National Art Standards and reinforce learning in other curriculum areas such as language arts, math, science and history. Instruction is presented by Art Specialist Lydia-Kay Blackburn via video format or you can obtain the lesson projects online. The 180 art lessons that make up the K-5 curriculum can be presented to the class in several ways, among them DVD player and TV, a computer or a projector with a Smart Board or a screen. There is also an online version available.

There are 30 lessons, one per week for the entire school year for each grade. Each movie lesson lasts between 7 – 15 minutes and any part can be replayed at any time. Prior to showing the lesson to your students, we encourage the teacher to preview each lesson. This way they can gather the needed materials and provide an adequate work area. The students are then expected to have 30 – 40 minutes to work on their projects with adult supervision. The material for the art projects are typically found in elementary school classrooms.

The work of top contemporary artists, including Alexis Rockman, Andres Gursky, David Levinthal, and Nick Cave is available for purchase. Art+Culture institutional partners are presenting works of compelling value from artists such as Karen Kilimnik, William Wiley, Chuck Close, and Roxy Paine. Institutional leaders, including the Berkeley Art Museum, the Guggenheim Museum, and the Contemporary Arts Museum of Houston, are working with Art+Culture Editions in a range of ways: creating new limited-edition prints with artist affiliates, selling previously published editions, and original works, and working on site-specific fundraising and curatorial programs. Art available for acquisition is expanding continuously.

Sustaining artistic practice is front and center at Art+Culture Editions. Founder and CEO Chris Vroom has a history of supporting artists, most notably through his nonprofit foundation, Artadia. The goal for Artadia is to support artists and institutions while introducing art into the homes of new and existing collectors.

For the collector, the Art+Culture Editions buying experience is seamless. The Web site is clean, easy to navigate, and features a wide range of media, including photography, works on paper, mixed media, and painting. The artists are introduced with a short A+CE View — a unique insight into what makes the them tick — and a biography. The Art+Culture Editions platform is like a stroll through your local art museum — but online.

With the arts being cut from so many schools, why not give children a creative, constructive and fun experience for the summer? The Indianapolis Art Center offers arts classes for children from one year old through 18, covering topics such as fine arts, ceramics, computers, glass blowing, sewing, acting and more! Half day and full day camps are available. For more information or to register for a camp session, visit http://www.indpls.artcenter.org. About the Indianapolis Art Center

Established in 1934 during the Great Depression to employ artists, the Indianapolis Art Center today contracts with 125 professional artists as faculty to teach 300 classes each semester to all ages, all abilities; contracts with artists for up to 50 exhibitions each year; and consigns the artwork of 75 regional artists to sell in its gift shop. ARTSPARK, the Art Center’s 12-acre creativity and sculpture park, is bordered by the White River and Monon Greenways recreational trail. The Broad Ripple Art Fair began in 1971, and now spans more than 16 acres on the grounds of the Michael Graves-designed Indianapolis Art Center and ARTSPARK including the adjacent North Side Opti-Park.

Programs and activities at the Indianapolis Art Center are made possible with the support of Lilly Endowment, Inc., the Arts Council of Indianapolis, the City of Indianapolis, the Indiana Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) February 3, 2011

ArtsNOW, a nonprofit organization committed to improving education, will host two events on February 8, 2011 designed to give members of Atlanta’s business, political, and education communities the opportunity to engage in an open discussion with national education leaders about why the arts are critical to student success.

“The Value of the Arts in Learning”

7:30 – 9:00 a.m.

Georgia Public Broadcasting Studio C, 260 14th St. NW, Atlanta, GA, 30318

This event will kick off with welcoming remarks from Ann Cramer, Chair of the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education and Director of IMB Corporate Citizenship and Corporate Affairs for North America. Anne Ostholthoff, Founder of ArtsNOW, will then offer a presentation on the compelling results of integrating creativity and the arts into every aspect of learning. This brief presentation of results, inspired by Irene Munn of the Georgia Office of the Lieutenant Governor, will be followed by an open discussion with a national education panel featuring some of the country’s most respected leaders in innovative education. Participants will include:

Karl Androes – Director, Reading in Motion, Chicago, IL
Jean Hendrickson – Director, Oklahoma A+ Schools®, Edmond, OK
Pamela Millice – CEO, ArtsNOW, Atlanta, GA
Martha Reichrath – Deputy Superintendent, Georgia Department of Education: Standards, Instruction and Assessment, Atlanta, GA
Larry Scripp – Director, Music-in-Education National Consortium, New York, NY

“We are honored to have these prestigious colleagues join us here in Atlanta,” said Ostholthoff. “This will be a unique opportunity for Georgia’s business leaders and legislators to participate in an open dialogue with experts from around the country about why there is such a ‘buzz’ in this community about the importance of the arts in education.”

Reichrath added, “The state of Georgia is committed to implementing creative and innovative approaches to teaching and learning that will prepare our students for the challenges of the 21st century workplace. Governor Deal has called for innovation, flexibility, and creativity in education, and ArtsNOW is an important partner in answering this call. I’m thrilled to have leaders from around the country here in Georgia to share ideas and results from their own communities.”

“A Conversation about Collaboration”

3:30 – 5:00 p.m.

Atlanta Ballet Centre for Dance Education, 1695 Marietta Blvd. NW, Atlanta, GA 30318

The afternoon event will give local educators the opportunity to engage in an interactive dialogue with a group of prominent national education leaders, including:

Karl Androes – Director, Reading in Motion, Chicago, IL
Jean Hendrickson – Director, Oklahoma A+ Schools®, Edmond, OK
Pamela Millice – CEO, ArtsNOW, Atlanta, GA
Sandra Rupert – Arts Education Partnerships, Washington, DC
Larry Scripp – Director, Music-in-Education National Consortium, New York, NY

The event will be hosted by Anne Ostholthoff, Founder of ArtsNOW, who said, “The results of integrating the arts and creativity into every facet of learning have been proven, and Georgia schools are making great strides in adopting this approach. We are thrilled to be able to share the insights of these leaders with educators here in Georgia. I am particularly honored to welcome Sandra Rupert, Director of the Arts Education Partnership in Washington, DC, who played a major role in Arkansas Governor Huckabee’s Statewide Arts in Education Initiative. I am looking forward to hearing her insights, as well as those of our other prestigious panelists.”

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) January 3, 2007

Across the country, people are putting their time and energy into private music and dance lessons, and they are searching more and more for their teachers online. According to San Diego-based Click For Lessons, a service that matches music, dance, art, acting, and language teachers with potential students, thousands of requests for lessons have poured in since the site launched a year ago.

“In 2006, we saw over 200,000 students request lessons. Not only were parents requesting lessons for their kids, but we also saw a significant increase in adults wanting to learn a new artistic hobby,” says Steven Cox, president and CEO. He expects use to increase in 2007 — there are already over 50,000 requests per month nationally, and the site is little more than a year old.

The top five major metropolitan areas were New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Cox’s own San Diego. Here are the top ten types of lesson requests across the nation:

Piano lessons – 12.6%

Voice lessons – 9.6 %

Hip hop dance – 9.0%

Guitar lessons – 6.1%

Salsa dancing – 5.2%

Belly dance – 4.7%

Acting classes – 3.8%

Violin lessons – 3.7%

Ballroom dance – 3.5%

Drum lessons – 3.4%

The site (http://www.ClickForLessons.com) was founded in late 2005 when Cox, an internet executive and musician, saw how other musicians were struggling to make ends meet and had to supplement their income by teaching lessons. Yet this income was diminished because music schools skimmed large fractions of music lesson fees off the top, leaving little for the teachers. He wanted to come up with a fair way for teachers to find students, set their own schedules and terms of teaching, and keep their earnings for themselves. The site matches teachers with students, who submit their requests for free.

With thousands teachers registered through the site, Click For Lessons staff took a closer look at developing trends. “2006 taught us that people everywhere are open to learning new skills, that they are looking for an affordable way to do it, and that they are also willing to access the internet more and more to find a local teacher these days,” says Cox. “We hardly do any advertising, so this data is a testament to the power of internet use today and word-of-mouth in the artistic community.”

New York, NY (PRWEB) January 12, 2011

The sheer amount of art on display at major international art shows can be overwhelming — unless you are armed with the Collectrium iPhone app. Visitors to Miami International Art Fair, Art Palm Beach and the LA Art Show this January will be able to enjoy these art fairs in an enhanced way with this revolutionary artwork image-recognition app from Collectrium.

An art fair visitor equipped with the Collectrium mobile app can point an iPhone at any registered artwork exhibited at the fair and:

=> instantly receive extensive information on the artist and the art piece

=> add the artwork to “My Collection” favorites

=> share with friends via Facebook, Twitter and email

=> contact the gallery about the artwork.

After exploring the art fairs with the Collectrium iPhone app, collectors end up with a browsable list of favorite artworks they have seen at the fair, complete with detailed information on each work, artist, and exhibiting gallery.

“Collectrium places a powerful, beautiful, and easy-to-use tool in the hands of the collectors to create a ‘Wish List’ collection from every fair that they visit,” said Lee Ann Lester, IFAE Organizer of Miami International Art Fair, Art Palm Beach, American International Fine Art Fair, Naples International Fine Art Fair, Art Naples and the London International Fine Art Fair.

“The Collectrium app provides our visitors with more information about the art that they are viewing,” said Kim Martindale, Director/Executive Producer, LA Art Show. “The more information that they have, the more they can appreciate the art. Besides, it is just fun to explore the show with this great tool.”

In addition, art collectors who store their own private collections on Collectrium enjoy secure access to their artworks through the same mobile app, alongside the artworks exhibited at the art fairs.

“Collectrium is known to art collectors worldwide as ‘The App That Knows Art’,” said Boris Pevzner, Collectrium Founder and President. “We developed it to make art fairs more interactive between visitors and exhibitors. It enhances the onsite experience while also allowing people to take the fair home with them. It is part of the next generation of tools that Collectrium is providing to the art community.”

Art fair visitors and other art connoisseurs can download the free Collectrium iPhone app at http://collectrium.com/iphone.

To see the Collectrium iPhone app in action this January, visit Miami International Art Fair, Art Palm Beach and the LA Art Show.

Now students applying to leading art and design colleges can find personalized guidance through Art + Design Educational Advisors, LLC. This firm helps students develop their admissions portfolio and also assists them in finding colleges which are a “good fit” for their interests and goals.

While independent college admissions consultants have long been available to assist students seeking admission to top-ranked colleges, Art + Design Educational Advisors, LLC, is the first to focus on the specific needs of art students.

Patricia Boman, firm founder and Managing Partner, stated, “We are dedicated to the success of each of our students.” She adds, “We want to make sure students receive the education they need to get an art or design job after graduation.”

A strong art portfolio is critical to acceptance at a selective art college. Boman states, “Some art colleges accept fewer than 50% of the students who apply.” For this reason portfolio development is a primary service offered by Art + Design Educational Advisors, LLC. The firm’s portfolio development services include:

initial portfolio assessment

tutoring to strengthen basic skills and develop new portfolio projects

selection of portfolio contents

Art + Design Educational Advisors, LLC assists students applying to BFA or MFA programs.

Boman earned a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and a MFA from Yale University.

Colorado Springs, CO (PRWEB) March 14, 2005

ArtByUs.com (http://www.artbyus.com), the online marketplace for contemporary, fine art by independent artists, artisans, and fine art galleries celebrates their one-year anniversary with the launch of a new ArtByUs.com Art Blog.

The new ArtByUs.com Art Blog is designed to provide its readers and participants the latest art news and personal posts from the artists on ArtByUs.com. Users will be able to contribute to this new art blog to announce their art news, shows, call for artists, and art marketing tips.

“When we opened ArtByUs.com in March of 2004, our main objective was to create an affordable art marketplace, that is easy to use and that avoids being a selling platform for mass produced artwork”, says Conni Tögel, CEO and founder of the ArtByUs LLC.

Tögel adds: “With over 1500 registered artists, ArtByUs.com creates the bridge between nationally and internationally recognized artists, artisans, photographers, fine art galleries, architects, interior designers, and art collectors. While other auction sites charge the artist community high listing and commission fees, ArtByUs.com offers a free distribution model to the artists.”

To kick off the ArtByUs.com Art Blog, Conni Tögel will give away autographed Signature Fine Art Prints of her own work to ten lucky winners. For a chance to win, users just need to submit art news to the ArtByUs.com Art Blog.

ArtByUs.com can be reached at http://www.artbyus.com

About ArtByUs.com

Founded in March of 2004, ArtByUs.com is the online auction market that sells exclusively real art by real artists. ArtByUs LLC created this site to offer a positive platform where art collectors can buy art of the highest quality, and know that whatever they purchase will be real art, by a real artist, and a real signature, and not a third-party reproduction or print. ArtByUs.com strives to create an atmosphere where both artists and art collectors can feel at home, knowing the site was founded with both support and respect for artists to have a professional venue to show and sell their work to discerning buyers.
